The National Physicians Alliance is the founding partner and sponsor of Rx Democracy!

If you can register to vote at the DMV, why not the doctor's office?

The health of our democracy and our neighborhoods depends on active voter and civic participation. And people who are involved in their community tend to be healthier. Still, millions of Americans, especially our poorest and sickest neighbors, lack a voice in our democracy. As some of our largest civic institutions, the nation's hospitals and clinics can and should help. That's why the best clinicians don't just treat illness. With RxDemocracy, they unleash the civic potential of health care to give everyone the opportunity to lead a healthy life.

You can RxDemocracy in 5 simple steps. We'll support you each step of way.

1) Sign the Petition!

Over the past two years, many states have placed new restrictions on voting, affecting the voting rights of an estimated 5 million eligible Americans. We call on hospitals, which provide over 620 million outpatient visits every year, to help by making nonpartisan voter registration services available to Americans who experience civic and health disparities.

2) Put up a Poster in your Clinic or Hospital

Our free posters encourage patients to exercise their voting rights while making your committment to health and civic engagement clear.

3) Get Connected

We build bridges between health care and civil society by helping local health care professionals, nonpartisan civic groups, students, and volunteers meet, teach, and learn from each other.

4) Bring National Voter Registration Day to your Clinic.

We can help you support a nonpartisan voter registration drive in your local clinic or hospital on September 25, 2012 - National Voter Registration Day.

5) Keep it going!

We help health professionals and clinics weave voter and civic participation into their everyday work. And we help civic groups improve the way health care works.
